CGA Teams visit Pune Schools
Pune, June 19th 2008: Commonwealth Games Association Teams were in the city, ahead of the games in October. The teams visited their partner schools which have associated with CYG as part of “Bond Forever”, the school programme initiated by CYG.

Team Canada interacted with the school officials and students of St. Josephs Convent, Pashan. Speaking on the occasion Scott Stevenson – Director of Sports, Canada said, “The sporting facility at Balewadi is at par with the best in the world, and you are blessed to have these in your city.” The team from Scotland, headed by Jon Doig, Chief Executive, Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland presented a traditional Scottish memento, the Quaich to Hutchings School, Camp. They discussed the sports and education system in their country. The Wales Team visited S.N.B.P. School at Pimpri and met up with the School President, Principal and teachers.

Mr. Chris Jenkins – Director of Commonwealth Games Council of Wales, was pleased to meet the school authorities and students and is looking forward to sharing Welsh traditional songs, phrases and recipes with the school. Team New Zealand was also in town and spoke with the authorities of Rewachand Bhojwani Academy in Camp. Malaysia, the partner country of Moledina High School, Shankersheth Road will also be in touch with them directly.

These Teams will establish a contact between their partner schools in Pune with schools in their country. This initiative will help the students exchange information on education and culture while learning from each other and truly add internationalism to education in these schools.

The Teams are looking forward to visiting the schools again along with their athletes and are anticipating support from the students by being cheered by the partner school during the Games. By establishing these bonds between Pune schools and athletes from Commonwealth countries, the name of the school programme, “Bond Forever” will truly be lived up to.
