Launch of “Team Pune” - Volunteer Programme of CYG Pune 2008
7th March (Friday) saw the official launch of “Team Pune”, the Volunteer Programme for CYG Pune 2008. Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, Hon. MP & Chairman of the Organizing Committee of CYG Pune 2008 and CWG Delhi 2010 unveiled the logo of “Team Pune” at the ceremony marking the start of the volunteer recruitment campaign.

The launch itself saw a large number of Puneites coming down to the venue to register as volunteers. Ace shooter and winner of four gold medals at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, Ms. Anjali Bhagwat registered from Australia as the first official volunteer of Team Pune. Internationally renowned hockey player, Mr. Dhanraj Pillai registered as the second volunteer of Team Pune. Also present at the launch were Dr. Vidya Yerawdekar, Joint Director – Symbiosis, Mr. Madhur Bajaj, Mr. Premchand Bafna, Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani and Lt. Gen. Ashok Kapur, ADG OC – CYG Pune 2008.

Volunteers are known as the “Face” of the Games and the “Backbone” of the Organizing Committee. Being part of Team Pune is a unique opportunity to gain invaluable skills through the training program, promote Pune and India to a global audience and a once in a lifetime experience to be remembered with pride for the rest of their lives.

Team Pune will be a mix of the energy and freshness of youth plus the experience and wisdom of the old. Volunteers will comprise of citizens between 18 to 60 years of age. Volunteers will undergo special training for different functional areas in July - August. Volunteers receive specially designed Team Pune uniforms and accreditation passes.

Registrations can be done online on the official website www.cygpune2008.com till 10th April ’08 and at the Table Tennis Hall at Sanas Ground from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Training sessions for general and specific training will be arranged for all volunteers.

CYG aims to support the Volunteers as much as possible to enable them to perform their roles to the best of their abilities with confidence and determination. Their rewards lie in their participation and in doing their city and their nation proud.
