Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Johny Joseph reviews the progress of CYG Pune 2008
May 23rd, 2008: Mr. Johny Joseph, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Maharashtra was in town to review the progress of the preparations for the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in October this year. He visited the Balewadi Sports Complex and then attended a meeting with the Organising Committee of CYG Pune 2008.

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi, MP and Chairman, OC, CYG Pune 2008 and CWG Delhi 2010 chaired the meeting. Also present were Dr. Nitin Kareer, Divisional Commissioner Pune, Mr. Praveensinh Pardeshi, PMC Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Johny Joseph reviews the progress of CYG Pune 2008] Commissioner, Mr. Dilip Band, PCMC Commissioner, Mr. Jayant Umranikar, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Laxmikant Deshmukh, Sports Director, Maharashtra, Mr. Prabhakar Deshmukh, Collector of Pune, Mr. Vijay Kumar Gautam, COO, CWG Delhi 2010 and members of the Organizing Committee of CYG Pune 2008.

Mr. Johny Joseph was impressed with the world class sporting venues at the Balewadi Sports Complex and the progress till date and assured the OC that he will follow up on the issues that have been raised by Mr. Kalmadi and Dr. Nitin Kareer.

Lt. Gen. Ashok Kapur, ADG, CYG Pune 2008 gave a general overview about the games and the Organizing Committee gave presentations on several functional areas & initiatives undertaken by CYG, such as Volunteer Programme, Youth Baton Relay, Image and Look of the sports complex and Pune city during the Games, Merchandising, School Programme, Cultural Programme during the Games and Green Games initiatives.

Mr. Suresh Kalmadi requested Mr. Johny Joseph to help expedite the process of bringing the CNG pipeline upto Pune before the Youth Games. Other issues discussed during the meeting were technology, transport, accommodation of all the athletes and delegates during the Games.
